Travels of a T-shirt

9 Dec

At the moment I’m reading The Travels Of A T-shirt In The Global Economy, by economist Pietra Rivoli.

It’s pretty dense, not just going into the details of the life of a t-shirt – to illustrate the life cycle of the product through sale, re-sale, the way it travels across continents – but right back to the issue of cotton subsidies in the States and right into all the by-products of said cotton, which give you a really detailed and broad palette of thoughts around the concept of the garment and its place in the world. So, yeah, give it a read. I’m reading it as part of my research into the global second-hand clothing market.
